About Ray

My History

Hello, I'm Ray Valine. My family were early settlers in Isleton CA. My grandfather built the Del Rio Hotel which for years was famous for it's Prime Ribs with folks traveling from long distances for dinner. Manual Valine also built the post office and 17 homes. He came from the Azores of Portugal as a carpenter and built most of these establishments with his bare hands. Sadly, Isleton has since seen hard times. with all it's potential is not much of an attraction anymore.

My Beginning

My father died 3 days after I was born and I was mostly raised in St. Patrick orphanage in Sacramento.  I joined the U.S. Marine Corp when I was 18 years old. Fought in in Vietnam and spent my 19th birthday in the jungles and rice paddies.  Serving my country taught me how to be a man with many lessons learned.

As a young man out of the corp. I went to work for the Sacramento Sanitation Dept. After seeing a 3rd world country I was appalled at the waste we had in this country, My idea before its, time of was for recycling system instead of a garbage system in every home was rejected by the the company. I rejoiced in life, I loved children and wanted life to be fun. I started to dress in costume on holidays on my route, much to the delight children and local newspapers and around world even Taiwan and Australia. I became a local folk hero.

US Destiny Recycling
